A high-speed pursuit that began in Navarro County ended in Freestone County Thursday, Feb. 4, around 10 p.m, resulting in one arrest by the Freestone County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities initiated a chase with three sports cars racing southbound on I-45 at a rate of approximately 170 miles per hour. Area agencies began responding with lights and sirens activated.

The cars exited the interstate in an attempt to evade theDPS Trooper in pursuit, but the assisting agencies were properly in position to effectively observe and take pursuit as they entered our different jurisdictions in Teague, Fairfield and other portions of the county.

The Teague Police Department was able to locate one vehicle in their pursuit as it was abandoned by the driver in Teague. Police are handling the investigation into the allegedly stolen vehicle.

The Freestone County Sheriff's Office and Fairfield Police Department apprehended a second Dodge Challenger as they were in pursuit of the vehicle headed eastbound on Hwy 84, going across the I-45 bridge.

One vehicle initiated a left turn at the traffic light in attempt to get back on the interstate but spun out of control. FCSO deputies immediately tried to block the subject from driving off, though the driver hit and began pushing a deputy’s vehicle.

The driver then began running on foot through Sam's Restaurant’s parking lot. Deputies and Fairfield police entered into a foot pursuit.

Another Freestone deputy and Fairfield officer were nearby in patrol vehicle, moving to intercept and apprehend the subject.

A vehicle search following arrest revealed multiple narcotics, in the form of liquid and pills, and over $2,250. The driver was transported to the Freestone County Jail and charged with evading arrest/detention with a vehicle, evading arrest/detention on foot, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public servant, manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance PG 1, possession of a controlled substance on PG 1, possession of marijuana under two ounces and displaying false/fictitious registration.

The investigation is ongoing and being handled by multiple agencies.

In a press release by Freestone County Sheriff Jeremy Shipley, he thanked other agencies for their contributions and success.

“Another job well done by your county law enforcement working together,” he said, highlighting the FCSO, Teague Police Department, Fairfield Police Department, Wortham Police Department and the Department of Public Safety. “And everyone went home safe.”
