Dario Mireles was a caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an unassuming man with a deep wisdom and rich character built over his 92 years, that served as a model and inspiration.

Dario was born to Lorenzo and Petra Mireles on Dec. 19, 1929, in Rockdale. As a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952, he served his country in the Korean War, stationed in Japan. Following his military service, he returned to Rockdale and married Margaret Munoz in 1959.

Dario was most at-home in a small town, but he saw much of the United States while working for Coffield in Rockdale, traveling to all corners of the country. In 1971, he and the family moved to Fairfield, where he called home for the past 50 years.

In Fairfield, Dario had decades of service first with Brown & Root and then later with Fluor Daniel, working at the Big Brown power plant primarily as a millwright. He held himself to a high standard and took pride in his craft.

An avid sports fan, Dario was happiest following and supporting his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they competed in multiple sports at all levels. He was grounded in the importance of family and greatly cherished annual gatherings, spending time with family from Rockdale, Tyler and Houston.

His wife of 54 years, Margaret, passed away in 2013. Surviving family members include his four children, Lawrence Mireles (Kim Mireles), Rosemary Montgomery (Danny Montgomery), Ricky Mireles (Shana Mireles), and Tom Mireles (Deepa Mireles); 10 grandchildren, Aaron Mireles (Lacey Mireles), Dustin Mireles (Katie Mireles), Colton Mireles (Nikki Mireles), Weston and Garrett Montgomery, Byron and Noah Mireles, Kush, Anoushka and Ruhi Mireles; great-grandchildren, Addison, Brynlee and Lane Mireles; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members including his boston terrier Buddy.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
