More than 3,300 Freestone County voters cast their ballots in the 2024 primary election, which came to an end on Tuesday.
Of those voters, nearly 3,000 voted in the Republican Primary (2,986). There were 355 who voted in the Democratic Primary as well.
In the only contested county race, Jake Fitch defeated Dan Ramsey by a count of 313 votes to 296 for Precinct 2 Constable. Both candidates are Republican and there are no Democratic candidates who ran for the position, which means Fitch will run unopposed for Pct. 2 Constable in November.
Brian Evans (County Attorney), Jeremy Shipley (Sheriff), Daniel Ralstin (Tax Assessor-Collector), Andy Bonner (Pct. 1 Commissioner), Lloyd Lane (Pct. 3 Commissioner), Buck Bonner (Pct. 1 Constable), Richard McGowan (Pct. 3 Constable), Ken Sessions (Pct. 4 Constable) and Roy DeFriend (77th District Judge) all ran unopposed for their party nominations. Each of these candidates will run unopposed in November as well.
Each county party had unopposed candidates for their chairman positions. Opal Oliver (Democrat) and Keith Turchi (Republican) each ran unopposed for those positions.
Of the county's Republican voters, the majority voted for Donald Trump (President), Ted Cruz (US Senate), Jake Ellzey (US District 6), Pete Sessions (US District 17) and Christi Craddock (Railroad Commissioner) to represent their party in November. Each of those candidates are expected to win their party's nomination.
County Democrats chose Joe Biden (President), Colin Allred (US Senate) and Katherine Culbert (Railroad Commissioner) as their party's candidates. Each of those candidates are expected to win their party's nomination as well.
District 13 State Representative Angelia Orr did not face opposition in the Republican primary, but will do so in November. Albert Hunter, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, will challenge Orr for her seat.
