The Mexia football team went toe-to-toe with state runner-up Malakoff and nearly pulled off a victory at Blackcat Field on Friday night. Mexia overcame a 17-0 deficit with 14 fourth-quarter points, but the ‘Cats couldn’t capitalize on a third drive deep into Tiger territory and lost 17-14 to the No. 2-ranked Class 3A, Division I team in the state.
