Area hoops action heats up February schedule

A number of local and area boys and girls' teams are playing basketball games over the next several days, both in post-season and post-season warmup action.

Locally on the boys’ side, Fairfield (18-13) will play a bi-district game against Jasper at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Huntsville.

On the girls' end of playoff action, the Fairfield Lady Eagles (29-4) will play Robinson (13-17) in an area-round game at 7 p.m. Friday night at Midlothian Heritage High School.

In other competition, the Mexia Blackcats will host Grandview Friday at 7 p.m. in a warm-up game for next week’s playoffs. Grandview is ranked No. 15 in the state in Class 3A and Mexia is ranked No. 25 in Class 4A.

Mexia will play a bi-district playoff game against Center at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Tyler Junior College.

The Coolidge Yellowjackets also are warming up tonight for the playoffs. Coolidge will take on Kerens at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Fairfield High School. The Yellowjackets will play a Class 1A bi-district playoff game against No. 11 Laneville at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Athens High School.

In a game involving a team from Mexia’s and Fairfield’s district, Rusk (15-12) will go against Lorena (18-16) in an area-round game at 7:30 Friday night at Buffalo High School.

In Class 2A, Marlin (24-4) will take on Lovelady (25-11) in an area-round game at 7 p.m. Friday at Riesel.

Fairfield High School will be the site of a Class 2A area-round game between Rosebud-Lott (17-8) and Kerens (25-8) at 6 p.m. Friday.

A Class 3A area-round game that might be of interest will take place in Riesel between West (26-7) and Franklin (19-4).
