Graveside services for Robert (Bobby) Mays were held on Friday, December 13, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery near Kirvin. Bro. Carl Clark will officiate.

Visitation washeld at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague prior to the service on Dec. 13 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:20 p.m. at which time a funeral procession left the funeral home and traveled to the cemetery.

Mr. Mays passed away on Dec. 11 at his residence near Streetman.

He was born in Houston on April 19, 1948. Bobby graduated from La Porte High School with the class of 1965 and joined the U.S. Navy. Mr. Mays served in the Navy for four years during the Vietnam War. While in the service, he was trained as an electrician and worked on the Navy ships. Bobby married Shirley Callaway on July 18, 1969, and shared over fifty years of marriage together. He attended The University of Houston and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and moved to Streetman in 1983. Mr. Mays worked for NRG until his retirement in 2016.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Mr. Mays attended Corinth Baptist Church in Dew.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Mays; his mother, Joyce Mays both of Streetman; two sons, Robert Mays & wife Nancy of Richmond, Virginia, and Brandon Mays & wife Amber of Tyler; three grandchildren, Maddox, Jaxon, and Adelaide; his father-in-law, Ben Callaway; his sister-in-law, Doris Oliver & husband Bob; two nieces, Veronica Harris & husband Mike, and Yvonne Brooke & husband Brian; one great-niece, Hayley Harris; two great-nephews, Zac Harris and Hunter Brooke; cousin Debbie Tugwell & husband Gary; other relatives and friends.

Mr. Mays was preceded in death by his father, Rudy Mays.
