It looks like there will be two runoff elections in Freestone County – in the Republican race for Precinct 3 commissioner and for Precinct 3 constable.

In the Precinct 3 commissioner race, Lloyd Lynn Lane took 470 votes, 210 more than his closest competitor, Ronnie French. However, that was only good enough for 49.84% of the votes – unofficially.

A runoff is mandated between the top two vote-getters if no candidate receives more than 50% of the votes cast. So, the runoff will be between Lane and French (27.57% of the votes), with Sonoma Adkins (22.59%) left out.

In the Precinct 3 constable race, Richard Lee McGowan led all candidates with 403 votes, or 43.05%. He will face Pamela Brackens Barnes, who garnered 32.59% of the votes with 305.

L.J. McAdams finished with 228 votes, or 24.36%.

Ken I. Sessions easily won his run for Precinct 4 constable, garnering 71% of the votes with 590. His competitor, Michael Fred Carter, finished with 241 votes, or 29%.

The top state election on Freestone ballots Tuesday was the race for U.S. Representative in District 17, particularly in the crowded Republican field.

District wide polling shows former Representative Pete Sessions getting the nod, holding 21,667 votes (31.61%). Businesswoman Renee Swann was second in the pack at 13,047 votes (19.03%), with George W. Hindman (18.05%) trailing in third.

The Freestone County vote shows a strong support for Sessions, who has earned 58.09% of the vote with 1,874 votes.

In the Democratic primary, Rick Kennedy held a strong lead throughout en route to victory, holding 22,028 votes out of 45,983 cast in the race (47.9%). David Anthony Jaramillo received 16,104 votes (35.02%), while William Foster III took 7,851 votes (17.07%). Kennedy also led Freestone County voting with 56.2%, with Foster performing stronger in Freestone than Jaramillo.

The crowded Democratic primary for U.S. Senator saw Mary “MJ” Hegar win in state polling, gaining 412,897 of 506,935 votes (22.2%), with no other candidate topping 300,000 votes.

Out of the 12 candidates, West had the support of Freestone County, taking a 204-162 victory over Hegar.

Republican incumbent John Cornyn held a tight grip on his party’s Senatorial primary, polling at 76.31% of the statewide vote. Cornyn has served in the Senate seat since 2002.

The Democratic race for the highest office in the United States, the Presidency, saw a massive delegate battle swing the way of former Vice President Joseph R. Biden, who took 34.48% over the statewide vote.

Biden’s main opponent, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, received 29.97%,

Freestone County’s strong preference was Biden, casting 329 of a possible 684 votes (48.1%) for the Pennsylvania-born VP.

Sanders received 167 Freestone votes (24.42%), while former three-term New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg took 106 votes (15.5%). Bloomberg would go on to suspend his campaign to endorse Biden, after spending figures in the $500 million range.

To little surprise, President Donald J. Trump was victor in the state Republican primary, earning over 1.8 million votes, a support of 94.06%
