Mary Amanda Teague Simpson, 88 of Streetman passed away Friday, Nov. 6, 2020.

Mary was born July 6, 1932 to William Thomas Teague and Henrietta (Etta) Williams in Cedar Valley. Mary was the 11th of 14 children.

Surviving are her sons, Robert Bennett Stanley Jr (Jodi), Randall Bert Stanley (Tavi) of Shallotte, NC and Farren Thomas Stanley of Fairfield; her sisters, Grace Brown of Austin and Doris (Kitty) Russell of Houston; and her grandchildren Brooke Amanda-Lee Stanley of Crandall, Farren Thomas Stanley Jr (Jordan) of Erwin, NC, Jessica Blaine Shamblin (Cory) of Mexia, Corey Lee Stanley of Asheville, NC, Ethan Fox Jacobs of Olympia, WA, Hayden Thomas Stanley and Llivianne Sophia Stanley of Shallotte, NC; 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary was a graduate of Miller Motte Business College in Wilmington, NC.

She was a trailblazer in the workforce during a time of evolving ideas around the role of women in society. Mary cofounded the Brunswick Beacon with her husband, Robert Stanley in 1962.

She was the first woman to work in the Graphics Design Department of the Wilmington, Star News and the first female Post Master of the Bolivia Post Office all while raising her three boys, whom she loved dearly.

Mary Amanda Teague was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. We will miss her every day.

Mary attended First Baptist Church in Streetman.

A time of gathering will take place Saturday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. on Mockingbird Hill. 301 CR 161, Teague. Family will receive visitors immediately following the service.
